Craig Laidlaw

Year 4 Teacher

I was born in Dundee, though I have had the privilege of living abroad throughout my school years. I left Scotland when I was six years old and spent seven years in Qatar before moving to Spain. After finishing my secondary education in Spain, I moved back to Scotland to study Psychology and Sociology at the University of Glasgow. I graduated in 2017 with a degree in Sociology (MA).

I recently completed my PGCE with Sunderland University whilst working as a Teaching Assistant at Oryx across Years 2, 3 and 4. My time with Oryx made me very excited to start with my own class of students that I had already had the privilege of working closely with.

Upon moving back to Qatar in August 2019, I noticed just how much the country has changed and how much more it has to offer to us all. I have enjoyed rediscovering Doha and look forward to continuing to do so in the years ahead.

I have always been passionate about music and have competed in a variety of competitions playing guitar and singing. I also played for Charlton Athletic Football Club’s Youth Academy in Spain as a teenager, as well as playing for Orchard Parkmount Football Club in Glasgow throughout my university years. Throughout my school years, I loved competing in athletics competitions and swimming. I hope to carry on these hobbies at Oryx International School and ignite a similar passion for them in our students!
