I spent my early childhood growing up in Belfast, Ireland prior to moving to the rural countryside of Ballela, Co Down - where my family lives to this day. I completed a Bsc Hons degree in Geography and Education at St Mary's University, London and then continued my education at St Mary's by undertaking a PGCE in Primary Education.
On completion of my university education, I taught in London for two years before returning to the north of Ireland to teach for a further two years. Over the course of this four-year period, I have taught Years 4, 5 and 6 in both rural and urban schools.
I lead an active lifestyle playing both hurling and Gaelic football (which are both codes in the Gaelic Athletic Association) for the club here in Qatar. While living in Ireland, in addition to playing, I coached my local club under 8 team and held a number of committee-level positions in a voluntary capacity. Also a keen golfer, at some point in the not too distant future I would like to reduce my handicap to single figures.
I am delighted to be teaching here in Doha to a diverse range of people and cultures. I count myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to teach children in such fantastic facilities as there are here in Oryx International School. Furthermore, I enjoy working with my colleagues to inspire a love for learning in those that we teach.
