Laura Dornan

Drama Teacher

I was born in Glasgow and grew up in the West of Scotland. I trained as an actor at New College Lanarkshire before going on to complete my degree at the University of the West of Scotland where I graduated in 2019 with a first-class honors degree in Contemporary Theatre. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Aberdeen where I completed my PGDE in Drama (Secondary).

During my time in education, I had the experience of working in multiple part-time jobs, as well as working with lead media companies for temporary part-time professional work, including voiceover commercials. For many years I volunteered in several schools around the central-belt area of Scotland, where I gained many key skills that would help when I went on to complete my PGDE. For my probationary year, I worked as a drama teacher in North Lanarkshire, delivering the Scottish National curriculum. I decided to see more of the world and applied for the position at Oryx International School and was delighted to find I had been successful in my application.

My family mean the world to me. I come from a very close family consisting of my parents, brother, and sister. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym and socialising with friends. My interests are travelling and the creative arts. I love to travel and have visited many countries over the years. It provides a deeper understanding of cultural differences and I hope to continue my love for travelling in the future.

I believe that every child matters and deserves an equal opportunity to progress in life. My aim at Oryx is to empower pupils to help them realise their full potential and instill to them that anything is possible if they dream big and work hard.
