Rosemina Shah

Year 2 Teacher

I was born in Preston in the North West of the UK. I studied children, schools and families at the University of Central Lancashire and gained my PGCE with English specialism at Edge Hill University.

My teaching career began in Preston and its surrounding areas. From the age of 16, I voluntarily worked in schools and continued doing so whilst studying. My teachers had the biggest influence on me whilst I was studying, and they helped me realise from a very early age that teaching was something that I was passionate about. I have always been interested in travelling and exploring the world, and so decided to try teaching in another country. In 2017 my adventure began here in Qatar with my husband and daughter.  I have worked at an international school in Qatar where I was the Year 3 Leader, before joining Oryx.

My main interests are reading, swimming and cooking. Reading has been something that I have loved ever since I can remember. I think reading is magical because it allows you to become different characters and experience different worlds. I also love cooking (and watching cooking shows - especially Masterchef!) My love for swimming has increased since moving to Qatar and having beautiful weather means that you can swim every day! I’m currently teaching my daughter how to swim because she wants to be a mermaid when she grows up!

My aim at Oryx is to create a safe, stimulating and creative learning environment where children are excited to come to school and feel free to be themselves when they are here. I pride myself on my ability to promote key values such as respect, appreciation and honesty in my class and in doing so my children are able to grow academically and socially into kind, generous and resilient members of society.
