Shabana Mulla

Maths Teacher

I was born in India and moved to the UK in 2004. I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree specialising in Mathematics and Master’s in Computing from Pune University in India. I obtained a part-time PGCE from the University of Huddersfield. I also completed a Graduate Teacher Programme at Wakefield as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Development (Action Research in Teaching and Learning) from the University of Huddersfield in the UK.

I have teaching experience in both the UK and Qatar. My experience has enabled me to obtain many skills in addition to the current skills I possess. I have 10+ years of experience teaching Mathematics at KS3, KS4 and KS5 using the national curriculum for England and Wales. I started my teaching career at Jamia Al Kauthar in Lancaster, working my way up to become a qualified teacher. I then moved to Doha in 2015 and worked in a school here for 4 years. I have extensive knowledge of both the AQA and the Edexcel GCSE syllabus. I have regularly participated in cross-marking across the Mathematics faculties, which led to a deeper insight into how we mark as Mathematics teachers. At Key Stage 5, I have experience teaching AS and A Level Mathematics, using AQA and Edexcel specifications. I am also a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, Educator Community Influencer, as well as a Community Contributor.

My husband is a Quran and Islamic Studies Teacher. Qatar has been an amazing place to raise a family. We now have three children, the youngest of whom will start his schooling at Oryx International School in September 2019. We love to travel and explore new places and cultures whenever we can and are always looking for new family-friendly adventures.

I like to help in the community with various charities as well as social work. I have organised many charity events to help underprivileged people. I am an outgoing person as I like to meet new people and like to explore different cultures. I am a keen traveller and have travelled extensively. I am a keen sports player and like to play basketball, tennis and handball. I also enjoy swimming, practicing Yoga, and have completed a baking course at Dewsbury college, as I love cooking and baking too.

My teaching aim is to make learning an enjoyable, highly structured and confidence-building process. I also believe that being a teacher encompasses more than just preparing students for academic success; it also involves preparing them for life in general. I would like to use Oryx as a perfect platform to empower my students to become critical thinkers and global citizens who are aware of the world and can confidently face and address the challenges around them.
