Year 12 & 13 Students at Oryx International School have been recognised this week with “Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards” to highlight excellence in their 2023 I/GCSE and A Level Examinations.
Awards were presented by Mrs Ameena Soysa, Senior Regional Development Manager from Pearson, Middle East & Turkey. Mrs Soysa personally attended the school to meet the students, who had gained an array of prestigious awards including:
- The Highest Mark in the World
- The Highest Mark in the Region
- The Highest Mark in the Country
- Outstanding & Consistent Excellence
This week we were pleased to welcome the Senior Regional Development Manager for Pearson Edexcel, Mrs Ameena Soysa to Oryx to present some very prestigious awards to our current Year 12 students, and previous Year 13 students, for the examinations they sat in the Summer series of 2023.
Every year Pearson examination board recognise and celebrate Pearson Edexcel learners around the world who have demonstrated academic excellence at the very highest levels in their exam performance. The “Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards” (OPLAs) are presented to those learners in each exam series who have achieved the highest subject mark in their country, in the region, and around the world.
The Oryx OPLA’s are among the 2600 award winners from 700 schools across 82 countries globally, who have successfully achieved these standards in their Pearson Edexcel exam(s) in the 2022/23 academic year.
At Oryx International School we were honoured to learn that our students achieved these incredible grades, and wish to highlight these achievements:
- The Highest Mark in the World
Was awarded to Gabriel S for GCSE Portuguese and Gaia B for GCSE Italian, who also achieved 100% in the exam.
- The Highest Mark in the Region
Was awarded to Gabriel P G for IGCSE Spanish
- The Highest Mark in Qatar
Was awarded to Pashmin T and Roshan A for GCSE Design & Technology, as well as Samantha R for GCSE Music
Was awarded to Yago H V for A Level Maths and AS Level Further Maths.
- Outstanding & Consistent Excellence achieving Grade 8 and above in I/GCSEs

In 8 Subjects: Roshan A and Gaia B
In 7 Subjects: Nalin K, Pashmin T and Aisha J
In 6 Subjects: Malvika B, Nithila B, Samantha R, Mohammed A R and Aaliya A R.
In 5 Subjects: Gabriel S, Pierta S, Muzammil S and Mariana T
- Outstanding & Consistent Excellence achieving 3 Grade “A” and above at A Level
Was awarded to Sen M, Yago H V, Shaun S T and Abdul S M
