Resounding Success at the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad

We are pleased to announce that our students have achieved remarkable success in the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) “Chemistry Olympiad”, a highly prestigious and intellectually demanding international competition.

This event, organised by one of the most respected scientific institutions in the world, offers Secondary school students from around the world, a unique opportunity to challenge their understanding of advanced chemical concepts and problem-solving at a university level.

The UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO) is designed to inspire and challenge the most promising young chemists, encouraging them to develop advanced reasoning skills and apply their knowledge to novel, real-world scenarios. Unlike other Science competitions, this Olympiad focuses exclusively on theoretical Chemistry, and participants are required to complete a rigorous two-hour written exam. The problems presented in the exam go far beyond the standard Secondary school curriculum, often exploring university-level topics such as organic synthesis, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and reaction mechanisms.

Participation in this competition required significant independent study. The students prepared under the attentive guidance of Miss Misri, Oryx Science Teacher, who created a dedicated course on the CANVAS learning platform, which was specifically designed to support their learning needs for the event. Through this resource, students engaged in in-depth study and practice of complex chemical problems, fostering both their conceptual understanding and their ability to think creatively under pressure.

The first round of the competition took place on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, held simultaneously with participants from around the world. The exam was administered under official UK guidelines in the General Science Laboratory 2, with Miss Misri supervising the session to ensure compliance with international standards.
