Since moving to Doha, I have taught both Nursery and Reception children.
I have two younger brothers who both live at home with my parents, back in County Armagh. I studied the four year BA (Hons) in Primary Education with QTS at Manchester Metropolitan University.
After completing my degree, I worked as a teacher in the UK for one year in KS2. Whilst working in the UK, I realised that I wanted to see more of the world, so I applied for a teaching job in Qatar. I worked at a school in Qatar for two years, teaching EYFS and KS1. Upon the completion of my contract, I ventured even further afield and worked in Guangzhou, China for one year. Although teaching in China was a fantastic experience my heart was still in Doha, so I am really excited to return and to continue my career at Oryx!
I am very close with all of my family and they are really excited to be able to come and visit me in Qatar again. Obviously with living in Qatar previously I have a group of very close friends, who are like my second family – so I’m very lucky!
When I’m not at work I like to keep myself very busy. I love going on holidays to new places and seeing as much of the world as I can! I also love to read and I always have my head stuck in a book. As well as this, I like swimming and playing squash.
I absolutely love teaching so I'm very excited to continue my career in such an amazing school. As well as developing children academically, I think it is so important to develop them socially too and give them the confidence they need to progress in life. My aim is to give the children in my class and throughout the school the best possible start in life that I can!
Year 2 Teacher
I was born in a city called Preston in the North West of the UK. I studied children, schools and families in the University of Central Lancashire and gained my PGCE with English specialism at Edge Hill University.
My teaching career began in Preston and its surrounding areas. From the age of 16, I voluntarily worked in schools and continued doing so whilst studying. My teachers had the biggest influence on me whilst I was studying, and they helped me realise from a very early age that teaching was something that I was passionate about. I had always been interested in travelling and exploring the world, and so I decided to try teaching in another country. In 2017 my adventure began here in Qatar with my husband and daughter. Since then I have been working at an international school here where I was the Year 3 Leader.
My main interests are reading, swimming and cooking. Reading has been something that I have loved ever since I can remember. I think reading is magical because it allows you to become different characters and experience different worlds. I also love cooking (and watching cooking shows - especially Masterchef!) My love for swimming has increased since moving to Qatar and having beautiful weather means that you can swim everyday! I’m currently teaching my daughter how to swim because she wants to be a mermaid when she grows up!
My aim at Oryx is to create a safe, stimulating and creative learning environment where children are excited to come to school and feel free to be themselves when they are here. I pride myself on my ability to promote key values such as respect, appreciation and honesty in my class and in doing so my children are able to grow academically and socially into kind, generous and resilient members of society. I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Oryx community and being able to contribute to the already outstanding progress the school has made.
Year 2 Teacher
I grew up in a small town in the West of Scotland and completed my BA at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and my PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Glasgow.
After finishing university I began my teaching career in a small school in Fife, at the time there were only 55 children. I then made the move to the Middle East and a school with over 1000 pupils, what a change! I worked in international schools in Dubai for 4 years before returning to Scotland after the birth of my first daughter. I have spent the last 5 years in a small school in Clackmannanshire, during this time I have also had the additional responsibility of being Maths Coordinator.
I am moving to Doha with my husband and two daughters, aged 5 years and 10 months. My oldest daughter will be joining Year 1 at Oryx International School and we are very excited about becoming part of the school community.
In my free time I love reading, going to the cinema and trying new recipes in the kitchen with mixed success.
I am passionate about providing the best possible education to each child in my care, creating an environment where learners have the tools and confidence to flourish and I am looking forward to contributing to the exciting work already taking place at Oryx.
Year 2 Teacher
I was born and raised in England in West Yorkshire. I studied Culture, Identity and Learning and completed my teacher training straight after, both at the University of Leeds.
My teaching career began in Yorkshire where I had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of children from different cultural backgrounds. I was lucky enough to continue working with such diverse backgrounds when I moved to Qatar in 2017 to teach at a school here.
I am from a family full of teachers. Both my sisters and mother all work in a school. My husband and newborn baby Aria have been living with me in Qatar and they will join me again this time too.
In my free time, I enjoy doing henna on brides and taking part in sports activities. Fitness is an important part of my lifestyle. I enjoy an active lifestyle and since I am married to a Jiu-Jitsu athlete, we love to participate in sports activities and go to the gym often.
My aim at Oryx is to create an inclusive, stimulating and engaging environment, where children enjoy coming into school every day. This is through creating strong relationships with everyone within the school community which includes parents, staff and most importantly the students.
Year 2 Teacher
I was born in South Africa and grew up on a farm just outside of Johannesburg. I completed my studies at the University of Pretoria where I gained my teaching qualification, specialising in Physical and Primary Education. I started my teaching career at a Primary School in Pretoria, South Africa. Rugby provided me with the opportunity to follow a different career path as a professional Rugby player for 15 years. My passion for teaching young people lead me back to pursue my career as a teacher. I have been teaching as a Primary Teacher for eight years, five of these in Qatar.
In my spare time, I still enjoy playing and coaching rugby and also keenly follow a variety of sports, including athletics, football and cricket. I am very fortunate to be joined in Doha by my wife and three amazing children. As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors when the weather allows like camping, water sports and exploring and learning more about the different cultures in Qatar.
My aim at Oryx International School is to create a fun, safe and nurturing learning environment for every student that I teach. My aim in life is to make a difference in every single child's life that crosses my path. Teaching them comes naturally to me and gives me a deep sense of personal satisfaction. Undeniably, watching students make improvements and sharing positive praise with parents are my most rewarding moments of teaching.
I encourage students to express themselves positively, to be understanding and make sure that they gain confidence in order to reach their highest ability. I believe that no two children are the same: all children can achieve greatness in their own way and I would like to help each of the students that I work with achieve this at Oryx International School.
Year 3 Lead and Teacher
I am originally from Ballymena which is a busy town in the North of Ireland. I moved to Liverpool to complete my studies in Sport and Exercise Science at Liverpool Hope University, followed by a PGCE in Primary Education in the same University.
After completing my teacher training in Liverpool, I moved home to Ireland and taught a Year 1 and Year 2 classes, both of which I enjoyed hugely. After this, I travelled to South Africa for 6 weeks and taught children English and Physical Education. I then decided I wanted more experience of international teaching and was fortunate enough to get a job in Doha. I have taught in Year 2 and been the Head of Year 2 for the past two years.
My family also live in the North of Ireland and we are all very close. I have 2 brothers. My older brother is a Secondary PE teacher in Ireland and my younger brother has just finished his studies in Sports Science. They all visited me in my first year in Doha and really loved it. They hope to visit again soon.
My main interests consist mainly of playing different sports and travelling. I also enjoy socialising with friends.
At Oryx I aim to instil in children a love of learning and encourage all learners to reach their full potential.
Year 3 Teacher
I was born in County Down in the north of Ireland and have lived there most of my life. I studied Sports Engineering at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown. Once I completed my undergraduate degree, I went on to study a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle.
Having completed my teacher training in Carlisle, I moved home to Ireland and taught in various schools as a supply teacher, which allowed me to gain experience in multiple year groups before deciding to make the move to Qatar where I worked in another international school as a Year 4 teacher for the past 2 years.
I am the youngest of a family of 7 and I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. My eldest sister has lived in Australia for the past 10 years, which inspired me to leave home and enjoy all the world has to offer. I enjoy travelling and hope to visit many countries while living in Qatar. I have a great passion for sports, including football, golf and GAA which is the national sport of Ireland. I currently play for the local GAA team in Qatar who play in the Middle Eastern league which allows me to visit neighbouring countries for tournaments.
At Oryx I hope to teach fun, engaging and creative lessons which encourage the children to have a love for learning.
Year 3 Teacher
Originally from the North West of Ireland, I have been living in Qatar for the past two years, teaching in an international school.
I am enjoying the experience of working internationally and the opportunity to explore different countries within the Middle East. I spent the five years prior to this in England where I gained my degree from Liverpool Hope University. It was in Liverpool that I spent the first year of my career teaching. I am delighted to be joining the Year 2 team at Oryx International School and look forward to the opportunities it will bring.
Outside of school I have a passion for travelling, I thoroughly enjoy embracing and learning about different cultures, in different parts of the world. I love the outdoors and enjoy taking advantages of the warmer climate in Qatar, in particular the many water sports it has to offer.

At Oryx, I aim to provide an environment in which children feel safe and develop into confident, independent learners.
Year 3 Teacher
I was born in Liverpool but grew up in St. Helens, Merseyside in the North West of England. St. Helens is a little different to Liverpool because the main sport is Rugby League, not football. Where Liverpool is famous for its booming port, St. Helens is famous for making glass.
Before attending university, I worked as a Joiner, a Landscape Gardener and a Football Coach for Bolton Wanderers Football Club. I then attended Liverpool Hope University and graduated with a BA in English Language and Education before gaining my Teaching Qualification in Lancashire.
My teaching career started in my hometown teaching Reception. I then taught Year 1 for a year in London before moving to Qatar where I taught Year1, 2 and 4 for three years at the Royal Grammar School Guildford.
My main interests and hobbies are Football, Physiology, Sport and History with minor interests in Philosophy and Politics. When I am not teaching, I like to travel.
My mother and father and my younger brother and sister all live in or close to where I grew up. My sister just gave birth to my niece who is the first great-grandchild of the family.
My aim at Oryx School is to perpetually improve myself as a teacher and to share my experience and my qualities with both the children and staff at OIS.
Year 3 Teacher
I spent my early childhood growing up in Belfast, Ireland prior to moving to the rural countryside of Ballela, Co Down - where my family live to this day. I completed a Bsc Hons degree in Geography and Education at St Mary's University, London and then continued my education at St Mary's by undertaking a PGCE in Primary Education.
On completion of my university education I taught in London for two years before returning to the north of Ireland to teach for a further two years. Over the course of this four year period I have taught Years 4, 5 and 6 in both rural and urban schools.
I lead an active lifestyle playing both hurling and Gaelic football (which are both codes in the Gaelic Athletic Association) for the club here in Qatar. While living in Ireland, in addition to playing, I coached my local club under 8 team and held a number of committee level positions in a voluntary capacity. Also a keen golfer, at some point in the not too distant future I would like to reduce my handicap to single figures.
I am delighted to be teaching here in Doha, where undoubtedly I will meet a diverse range of people and cultures. I count myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to teach children in such fantastic facilities as there are here in Oryx International School. Furthermore, I look forward to working with my colleagues to inspire a love for learning in those that we teach.
Year 4 Lead and Teacher
I was born in Margate a seaside town in Kent, I love living by the beach and am often there when in the UK. My Degree is in Drama and Performance Studies, I completed my Teaching Qualification in Kent and was fortunate enough to gain the qualification by completing a SCITT, and working on the job. I felt this gave me first hand experience and prepared me for the teaching profession.
The school in which I completed my SCITT was Salmestone Primary School and Nursery. I was mainly based in Year 6 and gained good experience of teaching in a challenging school. I then worked at Garlinge Primary School and Nursery for two years in Year 3. This is an inclusive School and I worked with a range of children with a variety of needs. I have been working at International School in Doha for the past two years in Year 4. This has given a fantastic understanding of working in a Preparatory School and with EAL learners.
I am an outgoing and sociable person. My personal interests include drama and dance, for which I have achieved several NVQ level qualifications, including R.A.D Ballet, I.S.T.D Tap, Jazz and Modern. This is a hobby that I have had since a very young age and I have continued to study at a higher level. I enjoy going to the gym and often attend classes. More recently, I have discovered an interest in Stand Up Paddle-Boarding and like to do this after work as a way to relax. My husband, George, and I both love travelling and experiencing different cultures.
My husband works in Doha as a Retail Operations Manager. We have been together for over 10 years and were recently married, July 2016 in our hometown of Margate. Both our families live in Margate and love coming to visit us here in Doha.
I would like to continue to develop my teaching practice, motivating students to reach their full potential within a positive and energetic environment. I would like to help my students to develop a love of learning and encourage them to be the best they can be. My main focus will always be ensuring my students are happy and helping them to prepare for their next step in education as well as life.

My main interests include sport, music, reading and traveling. I have played sport from a young age, most notably football, Gaelic football and basketball.
My aim is to continue the excellent work started here at Oryx International School. I will look to instil a love of learning that will hopefully inspire the children as they continue their educational journey.
Year 4 Teacher
I was born in Dundee, though I have had the privilege of living abroad throughout my school years. I left Scotland when I was six years old and spent seven years in Qatar before moving to Spain. After finishing my secondary education in Spain, I moved back to Scotland to study Psychology and Sociology at the University of Glasgow. I graduated in 2017 with a degree in Sociology (MA).
I recently completed my PGCE with Sunderland University whilst working as a Teaching Assistant at Oryx across Years 2, 3 and 4. My time with Oryx so far has made me very excited to be starting with my own class of students that I have already had the privilege of working closely with. I similarly look forward to meeting all the new students joining our ever-growing Oryx family!
Upon moving back to Qatar in August last year, I have noticed just how much the country has changed and how much more it has to offer to us all now. I have enjoyed rediscovering Doha and look forward to continuing to do so in the years ahead.
I have always been passionate about music and have competed in a variety of competitions playing guitar and singing. I also played for Charlton Athletic Football Club’s Youth Academy in Spain as a teenager, as well as playing for Orchard Parkmount Football Club in Glasgow throughout my university years. Throughout my school years I loved competing in athletics competitions and swimming. I hope to carry on these hobbies at Oryx International School and ignite a similar passion for them in our students!

Outside of keeping fit and active, I enjoy reading, digital media and going to the cinema. I have two brothers and a dog, Oscar.
I am looking forward to joining the OIS community and helping to build upon the past successes of the school. My aim is to provide all students with an outstanding education and learning experience where everyone can learn, progress and achieve their potential.
Year 5 Lead and Teacher
I was born in Aberdeen and grew up in a small rural town in the North East of Scotland.
I taught at Aberlour Primary School in Scotland, very close to my home town for my NQT year teaching a Primary 2 class. After a successful year, I made the decision to teach abroad and came to Doha where I have taught at International School for the last two years (Years 1 and 3).
Being healthy and active is a high priority in my life. At the age of 11 I achieved my Black Belt in Tae Kwon-Do and later became an instructor. Back in Scotland, I have horses and enjoy taking them out for a trek in the countryside. I'm a proud vegan and love to cook good food. Travelling is very important to me. Since moving to Doha, it has opened many doors and opportunities to visit other countries.
My parents and sister all live in Scotland and enjoy coming to Doha to visit.
Oryx International School gives me the chance to do what I enjoy most, teach. It is a great privilege to watch children become successful learners and confident individuals. Seeing the children in my class happy, healthy and respected is what I take pride in.
Year 5 Teacher
I was born in the North-West of England and lived in the same house with my family for 21 years. As a family we always loved to go on holidays, so my passion for travelling started very young. Luckily for me, I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher, so I studied for 3 years at Edge Hill University and qualified as a Key Stage 2 and 3 teacher.
As soon as I graduated in July 2014, I got my first teaching post at an international school in Doha where I spent 2 years gaining lots of valuable experience. I then moved to another international school here before exploring other countries within the Middle East.
By leaving Qatar to work in another country, it made me realise how much of a great place it is, as everyone is so friendly and kind here. I am so lucky to be returning to Doha to work at Oryx International School. I visited the school in November and was made to feel so welcome by all of the staff and children.
My main interests are catching up with friends and visiting new places, especially restaurants. Attending gym classes such as body pump and boot camp and most importantly, travelling to new places to experience the beautiful sights and different cultures. So far I have visited 36 countries!
I am so excited to join the Oryx family and help contribute ideas to this successful school. It is my job to make sure that all children are happy and thriving at school. Learning should be fun and purposeful with clear expectations between teachers and staff. My aim at Oryx is to ensure that all of my pupils wake up in the morning and enjoy going to school because learning in the classroom is fun and meaningful. I hope to develop their self-esteem and confidence by helping them find their hidden talents.
Year 5 Teacher
I am from the city of Sunderland on the North-East coast of England.
I studied Sport and Exercise Sciences with Sports Coaching at the University of Sunderland for 3 years before completing my PGCE in Primary Education.
Upon completion of my PGCE in Primary Education, I took up my first teaching position as a Year 4 teacher at Loydence Academy in Doha, Qatar. My next step in my teaching career took me to the vibrant city of Guangzhou in South East China where I worked as a Year 4 teacher, as well as a whole-school PE teacher.
Having lived in Doha previously, I amassed a large group of friends with whom I am still in contact. With this in mind, I feel I will settle back into life in Doha quite easily.
My main interests are sports and music. Up until moving abroad for the first time, I held a season ticket at Sunderland AFC for 15 years, travelling to both home and away games with my friends regularly. I also love to attend both music concerts and festivals, even attending some in foreign countries like Spain. Finally, I cannot wait to get back to Doha to attend some of the great events they showcase, such as the Qatar Masters golf tournament and the Qatar Open tennis competition.
My aim at Oryx International School is to continue to develop professionally as a teacher whilst settling into my new role as a Year 1 teacher – I can’t wait to get started!
Year 5 Teacher
I am from County Derry, Ireland, I have a First Class Honours Degree in Journalism. and completed my PGCE in Primary Education.
I started my teaching career in County Derry, Ireland in 2017. I have always worked in the primary sector and have experience across every Key Stage. Since moving to Qatar in 2018, I have worked as a Year 5 teacher in upper Key Stage 2. I spent two years at a British Curriculum school before moving to Oryx International School in 2020. I love my job and have found that delivering a high-quality education to young children is an extremely rewarding career choice.
I have no brothers or sisters and both my parents are Irish. My father works as an electrician and my mother is now retired from the catering industry. They are both happily living at home in Ireland.
I have many interests and hobbies and these mostly consist of some form of sport. I enjoy playing football, GAA (National games of Ireland) and swimming in my free time. I am a big fan of cinema and reading as well. I support Newcastle United and my favourite footballer of all time is Lionel Messi. I play for Qatar GAA and have met many friends and built strong relationships since arriving in Doha in 2018.
I am passionate about literacy and my aim would be to ensure that every child that studies at Oryx International School develops a strong platform to effectively communicate and articulate their ideas and passions through fluency and ultimately mastery of the English language. I believe that excellent social skills and reasoning can be taught in the classroom and I would like to ensure that every child develops their self-confidence and enjoys their learning. Additionally, I would love to use my experience and certifications through football to develop children’s enthusiasm for the sport as we draw closer to the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Year 5 Teacher
I was born in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, but grew up in Caithness, Scotland from the age of nine. I am the oldest of four brothers, residing with my parents in Scotscalder in the north of Scotland. I recently completed my Masters in Education in 2020 from the same University, writing a thesis on the attitudes and perceptions of international educators towards the implementation of social inclusion for EAL students.
I started my teaching career six years ago at Greenwards Primary School in Elgin, followed by five years at an International School in Qatar. For the past three years, my role as head of year developed my leadership skills across a four-form school, as well as the subject knowledge across two key stages for students in years two, four and six.
I have a keen interest in football and rugby union. In Scotland, I qualified as a level 7 football referee and have refereed several amateur and under 18 games during my time studying in Scotland and abroad in Qatar. I enjoy playing the piano and often play in my spare time. I am a keen traveller and enjoy visiting countries with a rich history. I have especially enjoyed my travels in Oman, Vietnam, Jordan and Belgium.
I firmly believe that positive relationships with students and the school community are key to unlocking a child’s engagement with learning. My primary aim at Oryx is to design learning that is fun, engaging and inspirational, which is only achievable when the children are engaged and parents trust you are doing what is best for their child. Thus, my philosophy is to make children smile, make parents feel proud, and motivate children to come back to school the next day to learn something new.

Year 6 Teacher & Leader of English
A genuine ‘Cockney’, I was born within the sounds of the Bow Bells, in Highbury, North London, the home of the mighty gunners, Arsenal F.C.
I studied Drama and Theatre studies at The University of Surrey, where I lost the accent and then I did a post-graduate degree in acting at The Academy drama school in London. I then embarked on a career as a jobbing actor for several years, treading the boards and after years of doing the rounds and several false dawns, I found my true calling and embarked upon my PGCE from Middlesex University.
Since then, I put my football allegiances behind me and taught in a Church of England school, in Tottenham. And for the last three years in Qatar, I have worked at international school.
My main interests are football, theatre, travel and I also enjoy running (having once completed the Edinburgh marathon in under four hours!)
Aside from my little Irish mammy in London, I’ve got two older brothers, one of whom lives in Thailand. I try to visit him as often as I can, or we will meet up somewhere internationally once or twice a year. I have a cat called Nellie, who has joined me from the U.K.
Being part of the Oryx International School community, it is my intention to provide a rich and varied learning environment to allow all learners in my class to develop their skills and abilities. On a wider, whole-school basis, it is my aim to provide a memorable, outstanding educational experience for our students; I want to engender a lifelong love of reading and literacy, developing children’s awareness of the importance of English as a means of international communication, whether native speakers or not.

I started my teaching career in the north of England, and have taught internationally in Barcelona, Bangkok and now Doha.
I come from a very large family that originated in India and Kenya, so I have a very mixed background of cultures which I feel suits me well for teaching internationally. I have now lived in Doha for six years with my husband, and cat! We love it here!
My main interests are arts and crafts, I spend a lot of time practicing calligraphy and painting. Additionally I love reading, travelling and photography!

I studied Science Education with Biology and Chemistry at the University of Limerick and started my teaching career in London. I lived and taught there for 1 year. After that, I knew it was time for me to see a bit more of the world so I decided to move to Qatar. I have taught in Qatar for the past 4 years and I have loved every minute of it.

Head of Music
I was born and raised in Bolton in the United Kingdom and have fond memories of my time at school there. I believe the success I have enjoyed as a musician stems from the fantastic music teachers I was fortunate to have as a young student.

As a performer I have had the chance to work with many varied groups from professional orchestras such as the Halle, Manchester Camerata and the Seocho Philharmonic, through Brass Chamber Ensembles, Brass Bands as well having sung as a Tenor with several choirs. I have given many solo recitals over the years, including an invitational performance at the ABRSM Centre in Gangnam, South Korea.
Another of my musical interests is composition, in fact, it is one of the areas I enjoy teaching the most at GCSE and A-Level. I have found it very rewarding to compose and arrange music specially suited to the abilities and needs of my students and have several, more serious, compositions published with Fortons Music in the UK.
My aim at Oryx School is to build on the excellent work already undertaken in establishing the school, most notably its recent success with the school choir. I also hope to develop instrumental ensembles to meet the developing needs of the students.
I was born and raised in a small town called Morriston in South Wales, UK.
Throughout my education, music has always been at the forefront. I began studying music at a very young age and learnt how to play a variety of instruments. I sang in many choirs over the years which led to me having the fantastic opportunity of becoming the leader of a local junior choir at just 16 years old. I was also part of a youth wind orchestra in South Wales, where I played flute. I achieved grades in The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for both piano and flute. I studied music and the arts throughout secondary school and then went on to study teaching at university.
I graduated with a BA(Hons) in Primary Education, specialising in music. I spent 12 years living and working as a classroom teacher in London while also leading music across the whole school. Then, in the summer of 2018, my wonderful husband and our two lovely daughters decided to continue our journey here in Qatar.
We love to travel as a family. Living in Qatar has given us opportunities to go and explore different parts of the world. I also enjoy sewing and make clothes for my children as a hobby. But my real passion in life is music, it has always been a part of who I am.
At Oryx International School I strive to create stimulating, challenging and engaging music lessons and after-school activities where children learn continuously. I love seeing how children of all ages, abilities and backgrounds express themselves through the medium of music and the arts. I strongly believe that music and performing is essential to children’s learning and is crucial to helping them become confident, well-rounded, creative citizens of tomorrow’s world.

I had a fantastic time teaching there and the wonderful Korean cuisine is still among my favourites. I am an avid foodie, and during the pandemic discovered a love of home cooking. I returned to the UK where I completed my PGCE at the University of Leicester near to where my parents live and went on to spend five years in Leicestershire, going on to achieve Head of Geography and experiencing being a leader with the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I gained two beautiful dogs of my own during this time, Tai and Luna, who will be joining me in Qatar.
I am looking forward to continuing the excellent work started in the Humanities department at Oryx, working more in debate, and experiencing first-hand the vibrant school community and culture that I've heard so much about.

Teacher of Geography / Duke of Edinburgh Verifier
I was born in the Lake District and grew up in a coastal town on the Furness peninsula called Barrow in north-west England.
I studied Geography at the University of Salford and graduated in 2015. Since then I have been involved in a number of local agricultural projects, teaching growing and cooking techniques as well as promoting sustainable living and the reduction of food miles. These experiences led me to teaching and I completed my PGCE in Secondary Geography in 2018 at Manchester Metropolitan University.
I have worked in education and teaching for a number of years in a variety of roles. I originally started as a teaching assistant and gradually moved into secondary teaching. After completing my PGCE, I gained a job at my placement school, Parrs Wood High School & Sixth Form which is my current school. My parents live in my hometown of Barrow and I credit them for having fostered my love of people and the outdoors. I am one of two siblings, my sister lives in Manchester and I have 2 nephews who are 2 and 3 years old.
My interests are the outdoors, sports, music, cooking and travel. My passion for geography flows into my interests and while I attended university I acquired an allotment, grew my own vegetable produce, created and cooked dishes out of them and sold these at markets across the UK. Being active is something I not only enjoy but feel is an important part of my life and I try to be outdoors as much as possible, hiking, climbing and playing sports, particularly golf and football. I’m particularly looking forward to exploring Doha and the whole of Qatar.

Immediately after qualifying as a teacher, I got my first job as a PE teacher at The Hurst Community College in Hampshire. I was promoted to Deputy Head of PE after 3 years and then promoted to Head of PE after a further 5 years, spending a total of 15 great years at that school.

I also love to ski in the winter and I have been very lucky to have skied in France, Andorra, Austria and the USA. I keenly follow the India and England cricket teams, but when it comes to football, there is only one club that is in my heart: Manchester United Football Club.
I love to travel and learn about new cultures and foods, so I am intrigued to see what Qatar has in store. When I have time and am on holiday, I love to read autobiographies because I love to learn about different people’s experiences throughout their lives. On the weekends, I love family days out, walks in the park and visits to the cinema.
My aim at Oryx International School is to help develop our pupils into global citizens using my experience and passion for sport. I want to help promote Oryx as one of the best schools in Doha by ensuring the best possible results for the first GCSE PE cohort to go through and to build on the success of the current sports teams. I hope to provide new enriching experiences for our pupils and lead the first Oryx ski trip as well as helping to organise sports tours abroad. Overall, I would love to inspire our pupils to develop a love for sport and exercise so they can be confident, ambitious and committed to a successful future.

Upon completing my training year and initial year of teaching in London, I decided to gain international experience and moved to Doha. I spent two years working at a small private school in the city, before moving to Oryx.
My interests are mainly playing and watching sports, particularly Football. In my youth, I played at a good standard of club-level football for Millwall Lionesses, and Leyton Orient.
