Our son of 5 years old had the most extraordinary year in FS2 with a loving teacher and assistant teacher. He has made tremendous progress in all the fields. We are also extremely proud of our daughter, who received an excellent end-of-year, Year 8, school report. We are lucky that she is a serious and passionate student, however one key factor to her success are the exceptional and great teachers at OIS."

Together with my family, I am looking forward to experiencing all that living and working in Doha has to offer. My sons and I are very much looking forward to spending family time together, as well as making the most of all the opportunities that come with living in another country and being part of an international school. Our two black labradors will also be joining us.
It is my aim to support the whole staff team, pupils and community at Oryx to build on and further develop it into a school that stands out as ‘five star’ within Doha.

My teaching career started many years ago in a small village in the North of England following the completion of my Bachelor of Education Honours Degree. Since then I have worked in a number of primary schools, held a variety of managerial positions and worked across the whole of the Primary age range. I moved to Qatar, my first international school setting in 2013 with my husband and two daughters.
My interests are wide-ranging but I love to explore the world around me and seek out interesting places to visit. I also enjoy cycling, canoeing, dancing and running.
To me providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment is essential as I am aware of how creating such an environment for children enhances their learning immensely. This philosophy I believe is one that is mirrored in Oryx International School, which is why I am so excited to be here.
I am very much looking forward to working with the children, staff, parents and extended community.
Head of Secondary
I am from a town called West Lothian in Scotland. I studied Music and qualified as a teacher in Glasgow and Dundee. I subsequently completed an MBA in Education from the University of Keele.
With the exception of two years in Arbroath and Montrose, Scotland, my whole career has been in international education. My first overseas post, in Kuwait, lasted 10 years and included the invasion and Gulf War, and five years as a Deputy Principal. I subsequently taught in Bahrain, Hong Kong and Thailand. This will be my 20th year in the Gulf.
My wife, Bernadette, and I have four children. Callum has qualified with MEng (Hons) and is presently working for an aerospace consultancy in the UK; Andrew is also in the UK and is currently undertaking a Law degree at Bristol University; Danny and Jade are with us in Qatar, doing A levels and GCSEs respectively.
I am a very keen traveler. Football is my main sporting interest, as a spectator these days. I love teaching and feel lucky to have a career that I enjoy and which offers so many opportunities to work with enthusiastic and motivated people.
My aim at Oryx is to establish a culture of achievement in the Secondary School and to enhance the good work already undertaken. I see Oryx International School as being at a unique and positive moment of its development and I am honoured to have the opportunity to shape the culture of the school and establish its trajectory.
Head of Sixth Form / Assistant Head Teacher – Secondary
I come from the UK and graduated from Loughborough University with a BA (Hons) degree in Industrial Design and Technology with Education. I then undertook my PGCE and Masters, both in Design and Technology Education.
After six years of teaching in the UK, our family decided that we would venture from our home in the UK and look for teaching positions abroad. We first moved to Beijing, China, where I became the Head of Design and Technology and later the Assistant IB Coordinator. We spent four years in China before deciding it was time for a new adventure and moved to Thailand. My roles there included Head of Design and Technology, Houseparent, STEAM and AG & T Coordinators.
Moving to Qatar in 2019, I am joined by my wife and our four children. As a family we enjoy travelling, exploring new cities and visiting different countries. My passion is my teaching subject and I enjoy making furniture and experimenting with electronics and robotics in my own time.
My ambition in teaching has always been to stretch and develop students’ abilities and skills in a stimulating environment. As the Head of Sixth Form, my aim at Oryx International School is to inspire and prepare students for life beyond the classroom, further study, and future employment.
Assistant Head Teacher - Secondary
I am originally from Manchester where I studied a BSc in Computer Science. I then furthered my education by completing my PGCE in ICT at the University of Bradford.
I started teaching in Manchester where I carried out duties as Subject Co-ordinator of Computer Science. I then moved to Burnley where I am currently Head of Computing and Leader of STEM.
I have a keen interest in sports, travelling and socialising. I am a regular participant of sports such as football and table tennis. I also like to participate in and organise various charity events.
I am married and my wife currently works as a care worker in the United Kingdom.
I would like to excel student achievement and progress while providing an engaging, challenging and creative curriculum for Computer Science at Oryx International School with real-life links to STEM. I also like to help build independent learners that show resilience at all times and make learning fun.
Head of Operations
I was born in South Shields and grew up in Jarrow in South Tyneside, England. I went to Jarrow Grammar School and then studied accountancy at Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic.
My first job as an accountancy trainee was with Thomson McLintock (now KPMG) in Newcastle. I then worked in private practice for firms of accountants in Gateshead and Sunderland before heading for my first overseas role in Saudi Arabia where I worked as a Project Accountant based mainly in Riyadh and Al Khobar but travelled to many of the military airbases around the country. I then moved to Kuwait where I worked for Reuters as the Finance & Administration Manager covering Kuwait & Iraq. Unfortunately, my time in Kuwait was cut short due to the invasion of Kuwait by the forces of Saddam Hussain but I was lucky and ended up working in Nicosia and Istanbul during the period of occupation. After the liberation of Kuwait, my wife and I decided to return to the UK and settled in Edinburgh where I worked as a Finance Director in different industries ranging from Cashmere Knitwear to Confectionery and progressed to become Managing Director of the UK Division of Mayer Kuvert Network, a German envelope manufacturer where I managed five factories across the UK and Ireland. After seven years of constantly travelling around Europe and the UK, I decided to return on a more permanent basis to my home in Edinburgh and became Finance Director for Macsweens, the premier and largest producer of Haggis in the world. When the opportunity came about for my wife to utilise her extensive paediatric experience to work at Sidra and help establish it as a world-class centre, I fully supported her decision and resigned from my job to come to Qatar with her.
When younger, sport was the dominant interest and hobby as I played football, cricket, rugby and Squash and tried many other sports as well. However, a serious knee injury curtailed my sporting activity but I still played cricket competitively into my 50's when I took up golf. I brought my clubs with me and try and play regularly at Doha Golf Club. I qualified as both a cricket and football coach and helped coach club and school teams and took great joy in coaching both my sons. I am a lifelong and long-suffering Sunderland fan having first been taken to Roker Park in the mid-1960s by my Dad who sat me on a fence with a packet of monkey nuts and a passion for Sunderland was born.
I am married to Margery who I met at a diving club when we were both working in Saudi Arabia so we have enjoyed living and working together in the different parts of the world our careers have taken us. Margery is a pharmacist currently working at Sidra Medicine. When we settled back in Edinburgh we had two boys and have enjoyed watching them grow into fine young men. My eldest son James has just graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in Philosophy and my younger son Daniel is currently working for the Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh. Whilst both are keen sportsmen, their particular passion is Small Bore Rifle shooting where they have both experienced significant successes. James has also carried on the family tradition as a cricketer and as a bowler.
I am excited by the challenge of managing the non-academic activities at the school to ensure our teachers, students and parents enjoy their experience whilst part of our family and ensure that teachers can focus on delivering the high-quality education in a wonderful setting that the children deserve and Qatar Airways desire.

I have been teaching for twenty years. I started my career as a Key Stage One teacher in Essex and then as a senior manager in a children’s centre in Salford. I have spent the last thirteen years teaching Early Years in some of the top international schools across the Middle East. I have a rescue cat that I took in as a kitten while I was working in Egypt. He is now an enormous cat who has traveled with me over the past seven years.

I enjoy teaching Early Years Foundation Stage classes, supporting children to settle into school and grow in confidence to take risks in their learning. As Primary Digital Lead Teacher, I am excited about sharing my passion for the effective and suitable use of digital technologies across the Primary school. Today’s students will require critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, resilience and collaboration to be successful in their future careers. As teachers, we need to remain digitally literate to ensure that tech-savvy students know how to remain safe online and how to use and engage with digital tools and technologies in positive ways that can help them become successful digital citizens.

Spending time on the open waters, riding my Jet Ski and camping in the desert are some of the things I enjoy doing in my free time. I like to follow world netball and rugby and take part in physical activities.
At Oryx, it is my aim to provide a fun, secure and effective learning environment that allows young children in my care to develop into independent learners. Preparing them for the world of learning, all while having fun. I value seeing children in my class engaged and respected.

I am looking forward to meeting the parents and strengthening our relationship, which will lay the foundation to provide a great and secure environment that will enable our children to reach their full potential.
Foundation Stage 2 Teacher
I was born in County Armagh, in the North of Ireland. I completed my Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Stranmillis University College in Belfast and was proud to receive my honors degree in 2015.
I started my teaching career covering a maternity role at a school close to my parent’s house. I taught a composite Reception and Year 1 class and then moved to North London where I taught Year 1 for two years. However, due to spending some time teaching in Poland during my degree, I have always had an interest in international teaching, which drew me to Qatar two years ago. Since moving to Doha, I have taught both Nursery and Reception children.
I have two younger brothers who both live at home with my parents, back in County Armagh. I enjoy playing the piano (although you won’t catch me performing for a crowd!) and also like to spend the weekends outdoors on long walks or socialising with friends. I am an avid reader and probably get through at least two books each month. I have recently enjoyed making the most of my balcony, but perhaps should read a book about how to keep plants alive.
I hope to continue to offer our youngest learners an active, playful and fun start to their school journey at Oryx. I believe that through facilitating opportunities for children to have hands-on and meaningful early learning experiences, we can support them in achieving a solid basis for a successful future in education!

I am originally from UK and have been living in Qatar for the past seven years. I graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a First class Degree in Fashion Design with Manufacture, Marketing and PR. My career enabled me to travel to many shows all over the world and gave me an insight in the Fashion World. After having my daughter in 2011, my career aspirations changed and seeing young minds grow and develop was fascinating. I discovered my love for teaching and decided to complete my PGCE.
I have been working in International schools in Qatar for the past seven years in Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Early Years Foundation Stage as well as teaching P.E. I am very passionate about teaching and have had a fantastic year teaching FS2 at Oryx International School.

Since moving to Doha, I have discovered a love for the desert, beaches, dune bashing and fishing.
One of the most important things for me as a teacher is not only to see my students grow academically but also to grow as a person and learn about values in our lives. I promote important values such as respect, integrity, honesty and communication which are important lessons taught within my classroom. I believe that each child is unique and is gifted in their own special way and can achieve great things.
My aims at Oryx are to help students grow and become more independent, to realise their own potential, prepare them for their future in terms of academics, social skills, and to become more self-reliant and take steps towards developing and discovering their strengths and passions. Seeing the children in my class happy, engaged and respected is what I value.

Nurturing pupil’s learning and catering to their needs to ensure they love coming to my lessons is the ethos of my teaching. I am passionate to pass my enthusiasm and energy onto students and colleagues at OIS as my career progresses and grows.

I was born in East London, South Africa and grew up in Botswana and Zambia. I went to boarding school at Woodridge College just outside of Port Elizabeth and took a year off after high school to work at the Junior Kings School in Canterbury. I completed by degree at the University of Pretoria.
I started off teaching early years at Cornwall Hill College in Centurion and then taught Year 2 at St. Mary’s DSG in Pretoria for two years before moving to Doha. For the past four years I have taught Year 2 at an international school in Doha.
I enjoy taking our dog for walks, running, reading by the pool and watching series at home.
I met my husband in Doha and we’ve been married for two years. We have two fur babies, Rupert, a seven year old Newfoundland and Merlin, a one year old rescue cat.
I would like to ensure that the children that I teach are happy at school and that they enjoy learning and achieve to the best of their abilities.

My first job as an educator was in a training company, in 2002, where I taught ICT to children between the ages of 7 and 16. I worked for a few years at the Faro Airport and at the Portuguese National Statistics Institute as a quality coordinator. I moved to Doha in 2016 and have worked as a Portuguese language teacher for foreigners, at the Translation and Interpreting Institute at Hamad bin Khalifa University. I also worked at the Portuguese Embassy in Doha as a teacher for the Portuguese students' community in Qatar and as MYP / DP Mother Tongue Teacher at an International School in Doha.

I am a very communicative person and I like to participate actively in all the projects that I am involved in. At Oryx International School, I would like to continue to develop my teaching practice, providing a positive, fun and exciting environment for my students to reach their full potential. I aim to ensure my students are happy and encourage them to be the best they can.

Originally from the North West of Ireland, I have been living in Qatar for the past two years, teaching in an international school.
I am enjoying the experience of working internationally and the opportunity to explore different countries within the Middle East. I spent the five years prior to this in England where I gained my degree from Liverpool Hope University. It was in Liverpool that I spent the first year of my career teaching. I am delighted to be joining the Year 2 team at Oryx International School and look forward to the opportunities it will bring.
Outside of school I have a passion for travelling, I thoroughly enjoy embracing and learning about different cultures, in different parts of the world. I love the outdoors and enjoy taking advantages of the warmer climate in Qatar, in particular the many water sports it has to offer.
Year 2 Teacher
Born in London, I grew up in the South of England (predominantly the Hampshire area). I studied History at the University of Winchester, graduating in 2014. I then worked as a teaching assistant in a Year 1 class for a year before studying for a PGCE at the University of Chichester - achieving QTS in 2016.
Since qualifying as a teacher, I have taught in a private group of schools in Sydney, Australia where I helped write the MET Curriculum (largely based on the Board of Studies for New South Wales) which is now being used on a National level in Australia. After leaving Sydney, I took up a position at an international school in Doha, where I was employed initially as an English expert before working as a homeroom teacher. I have experience teaching both KS1 and KS2 and specialise in phonics and applying real world events into everyday teaching. I am highly trained in behavioural management techniques and am a big promoter of interactive and dynamic learning.
I am living in Qatar with my wife Rebecca whom I met shortly after arriving in Qatar and married in the summer of 2019. We share a passion for travel, adventure and food! I also have a love for several sports. As a former athlete, I enjoy track and field events as well as having a big interest in football (Leyton Orient fan) and Rugby (Exeter Chiefs fan).
To complement the school's glowing reputation and outstanding facilities, I aim to offer the students who pass through Oryx International School the most memorable and best learning experience within the state of Qatar. Priding myself on my innovation, ambition and professionalism I am excited to join an illustrious team at Oryx that will provide me with opportunities to grow as both a teacher and a person.
Year 2 Teacher
I am originally from County Tyrone in the North of Ireland.
I studied a BA Hons degree in Primary Teaching with PE specialism in St Mary’s University Belfast before completing my PGCE in London at St Mary’s College Twickenham.
After completing my studies, I began my teaching career in London, spending 2 years there before making the move to Qatar and spending 5 years teaching at an international school here in KS1.
My mum and dad both live in my home village of Gortin in Tyrone. I have 2 brothers who both live abroad, one in Australia and one in London. I recently got married (July 2019) and my new wife is also a teacher working in Qatar.
My main interests are sports, including football, golf and GAA which is the national sport of Ireland. We currently have a team in Qatar and compete in the Middle East Games. My other interests include travel, geography and computing.
I aim to bring some added enthusiasm and energy to an already established KS1 team here at Oryx. I am excited to join an amazing school and hope to provide a vibrant and fun learning environment for the children!
Year 2 Teacher
I was born in England and spent most of my time growing up there. However, I did attend a school in Qatar for some of my lower primary education due to my dad working here for some years as an engineer. I studied the four year BA (Hons) in Primary Education with QTS at Manchester Metropolitan University.
After completing my degree, I worked as a teacher in the UK for one year in KS2. Whilst working in the UK, I realised that I wanted to see more of the world, so I applied for a teaching job in Qatar. I worked at a school in Qatar for two years, teaching EYFS and KS1. Upon the completion of my contract, I ventured even further afield and worked in Guangzhou, China for one year. Although teaching in China was a fantastic experience my heart was still in Doha, so I am really excited to return and to continue my career at Oryx!
I am very close with all of my family and they are really excited to be able to come and visit me in Qatar again. Obviously with living in Qatar previously I have a group of very close friends, who are like my second family – so I’m very lucky!
When I’m not at work I like to keep myself very busy. I love going on holidays to new places and seeing as much of the world as I can! I also love to read and I always have my head stuck in a book. As well as this, I like swimming and playing squash.
I absolutely love teaching so I'm very excited to continue my career in such an amazing school. As well as developing children academically, I think it is so important to develop them socially too and give them the confidence they need to progress in life. My aim is to give the children in my class and throughout the school the best possible start in life that I can!

My hope for this academic year at Oryx International School is to continue creating a school family where children feel safe to create, explore, discover, make mistakes, learn and grow.
Year 3 Teacher
I spent my early childhood growing up in Belfast, Ireland prior to moving to the rural countryside of Ballela, Co Down - where my family live to this day. I completed a Bsc Hons degree in Geography and Education at St Mary's University, London and then continued my education at St Mary's by undertaking a PGCE in Primary Education.

I lead an active lifestyle playing both hurling and Gaelic football (which are both codes in the Gaelic Athletic Association) for the club here in Qatar. While living in Ireland, in addition to playing, I coached my local club under 8 team and held a number of committee level positions in a voluntary capacity. Also a keen golfer, at some point in the not too distant future I would like to reduce my handicap to single figures.
I am delighted to be teaching here in Doha, where undoubtedly I will meet a diverse range of people and cultures. I count myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to teach children in such fantastic facilities as there are here in Oryx International School. Furthermore, I look forward to working with my colleagues to inspire a love for learning in those that we teach.
Year 3 Teacher
I was born in the North-West of England and lived in the same house with my family for 21 years. As a family we always loved to go on holidays, so my passion for travelling started very young. Luckily for me, I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher, so I studied for 3 years at Edge Hill University and qualified as a Key Stage 2 and 3 teacher.
As soon as I graduated in July 2014, I got my first teaching post at an international school in Doha where I spent 2 years gaining lots of valuable experience. I then moved to another international school here before exploring other countries within the Middle East.
By leaving Qatar to work in another country, it made me realise how much of a great place it is, as everyone is so friendly and kind here. I am so lucky to be returning to Doha to work at Oryx International School. I visited the school in November and was made to feel so welcome by all of the staff and children.
My main interests are catching up with friends and visiting new places, especially restaurants. Attending gym classes such as body pump and boot camp and most importantly, travelling to new places to experience the beautiful sights and different cultures. So far I have visited 36 countries!
I am so excited to join the Oryx family and help contribute ideas to this successful school. It is my job to make sure that all children are happy and thriving at school. Learning should be fun and purposeful with clear expectations between teachers and staff. My aim at Oryx is to ensure that all of my pupils wake up in the morning and enjoy going to school because learning in the classroom is fun and meaningful. I hope to develop their self-esteem and confidence by helping them find their hidden talents.

Year 6 Teacher & Leader of English
A genuine ‘Cockney’, I was born within the sounds of the Bow Bells, in Highbury, North London, the home of the mighty gunners, Arsenal F.C.
I studied Drama and Theatre studies at The University of Surrey, where I lost the accent and then I did a post-graduate degree in acting at The Academy drama school in London. I then embarked on a career as a jobbing actor for several years, treading the boards and after years of doing the rounds and several false dawns, I found my true calling and embarked upon my PGCE from Middlesex University.
Since then, I put my football allegiances behind me and taught in a Church of England school, in Tottenham. And for the last three years in Qatar, I have worked at international school.
My main interests are football, theatre, travel and I also enjoy running (having once completed the Edinburgh marathon in under four hours!)
Aside from my little Irish mammy in London, I’ve got two older brothers, one of whom lives in Thailand. I try to visit him as often as I can, or we will meet up somewhere internationally once or twice a year. I have a cat called Nellie, who has joined me from the U.K.
Being part of the Oryx International School community, it is my intention to provide a rich and varied learning environment to allow all learners in my class to develop their skills and abilities. On a wider, whole-school basis, it is my aim to provide a memorable, outstanding educational experience for our students; I want to engender a lifelong love of reading and literacy, developing children’s awareness of the importance of English as a means of international communication, whether native speakers or not.

I was born and raised in England in West Yorkshire. I studied Culture, Identity and Learning and completed my teacher training straight after, both at the University of Leeds.

Head of Music
I was born and raised in Bolton in the United Kingdom and have fond memories of my time at school there. I believe the success I have enjoyed as a musician stems from the fantastic music teachers I was fortunate to have as a young student.

Successfully achieving a Bachelor of Music Honours Degree from my University and a Graduate Diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music. My main interest is Music, in its many and varied forms as well as the technologies developed to recreate and record music. As a performer I have had the chance to work with many varied groups from professional orchestras such as the Halle, Manchester Camerata and the Seocho Philharmonic, through Brass Chamber Ensembles, Brass Bands as well having sung as a Tenor with several choirs. I have given many solo recitals over the years, including an invitational performance at the ABRSM Centre in Gangnam, South Korea.
Another of my musical interests is composition, in fact, it is one of the areas I enjoy teaching the most at GCSE and A-Level. I have found it very rewarding to compose and arrange music specially suited to the abilities and needs of my students and have several, more serious, compositions published with Fortons Music in the UK.
My aim at Oryx School is to build on the excellent work already undertaken in establishing the school, most notably its recent success with the school choir. I also hope to develop instrumental ensembles to meet the developing needs of the students.
I was born and raised in a small town called Morriston in South Wales, UK.
Throughout my education, music has always been at the forefront. I began studying music at a very young age and learnt how to play a variety of instruments. I sang in many choirs over the years which led to me having the fantastic opportunity of becoming the leader of a local junior choir at just 16 years old. I was also part of a youth wind orchestra in South Wales, where I played flute. I achieved grades in The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for both piano and flute. I studied music and the arts throughout secondary school and then went on to study teaching at university.
I graduated with a BA(Hons) in Primary Education, specialising in music. I spent 12 years living and working as a classroom teacher in London while also leading music across the whole school. Then, in the summer of 2018, my wonderful husband and our two lovely daughters decided to continue our journey here in Qatar.
We love to travel as a family. Living in Qatar has given us opportunities to go and explore different parts of the world. I also enjoy sewing and make clothes for my children as a hobby. But my real passion in life is music, it has always been a part of who I am.
At Oryx International School I strive to create stimulating, challenging and engaging music lessons and after-school activities where children learn continuously. I love seeing how children of all ages, abilities and backgrounds express themselves through the medium of music and the arts. I strongly believe that music and performing is essential to children’s learning and is crucial to helping them become confident, well-rounded, creative citizens of tomorrow’s world.
I was born and raised in Madrid in a musicians' and music lovers' family. Having lived in a musical household, my passion for music started at a very early age.
I studied Music and specialised in piano at Amaniel Professional Conservatory of Madrid. After that, I studied architecture at the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Madrid. Later, I obtained a Teaching Training Master's Degree at Complutense University of Madrid.
After working as an architect for two years, I changed my career path and focused on Music teaching. I founded my own website based on Orff Music Methodology and started putting it into practice at TEO Nursery Schools in Madrid. At the same time, I led several Sustainable Architecture Workshops at the Headquarters of the Official Architects Association of Madrid.
In 2016, I moved to Qatar and worked at an international school, where I had the chance to lead the school choir, participate and organise several choir competitions, festivals, as well as school productions.
In 2018, I moved to Madrid again and started working at a bilingual school with their own Music School integrated in their school programme. I taught Mathematics, Technology and Robotics to Secondary students and Music and Movement, piano and Musical Theatre to Primary students, leading The Lion King musical production.
I am a very artistic person and my hobbies are mainly related to art in all its forms. I am currently taking contemporary dance lessons and I have become a big fan of this discipline, and particularly Pina Bausch choreographies. I have also been painting since I was very little, and that passion led me to study architecture. I am also keen on writing, having collaborated on several architecture and design publications and focusing on poetry, a discipline I have developed for a long time on my own blog.
I am lucky enough to work on something that is my passion, so I will bring all my musical experience and enthusiasm to Oryx International School, giving my students the chance to learn from different music approaches and methodologies, trying to engage them with the music I love, and trying to get the very best of each of them and supporting everyone to develop their musical talents.

After completing university I spent some time travelling and working with charities in providing basic education in Low Economic Developed Countries. My time there made me passionate about education and on returning to the UK I worked with children with special educational needs at a local college. In my time at Sydenham, I became involved with the pastoral aspect of school and became a deputy head of year. I then made the move to Qatar in 2017 and worked at a British School for a year and am now looking forward to my time at Oryx; providing the best education possible for my students and growing as a teacher.
My hobbies include travelling and reading. I love travelling because it allows me to experience the culture of others and learn more about them which I believe in turn teaches you much about yourself. My favourite country so far has been in Morocco. I enjoy reading for similar reasons to travelling; because it allows you to momentarily live in someone else's world. My favourite writer is Khaled Hosseini.
I come from a large lively family. I am the eldest of five with one brother and three sisters. Though living in Qatar alone, my family are always visiting so it doesn't feel like they are that far away.
I would like to make English fun and enjoyable for all our students. I would also like to develop a strong literary culture within the school; have reading competitions, literature programs and school plays. I want students to see language beyond the classroom and for them to understand that it is the fabric of all society; films, adverts and books.

I look forward to connecting with new parents and getting to know many new students. I am from East London, UK. I studied Sports at the University of Bedfordshire and completed by Primary PGCE at the University of Greenwich, London.
I started my career in education working as a learning support assistant and sports coach, within secondary schools in London. I then began to work in a primary school, where I enjoyed the different variations of lessons throughout the school’s days and the activities and occasions that are celebrated throughout the academic year. It was from that experience I decided to become a primary school teacher. Eager to keep a foot in sports, I specialised in PE on my PGCE. Upon completing my training year and initial year of teaching in London, I decided to gain international experience and moved to Doha. I spent two years working at a small private school in the city, before moving to Oryx.
My interests are mainly playing and watching sports, particularly Football. In my youth, I played at a good standard of club-level football for Millwall Lionesses, and Leyton Orient. Aside from football, I enjoy travelling and exploring new places, watching films and documentaries, and I am self-confessed coffee enthusiast.
My aim here at OIS is to help guide and nurture the students to reach their full potential. I also want to continue to develop the sporting talent within our school, so our sports teams and school are recognised amongst the best in Qatar.
I am from Scotland – Ayrshire to be specific. The same place as Robert Burns and some of the best golf courses in the world!
I studied an HNC after Secondary school in ‘Sport and Recreational management’, then pursued my love for teaching PE. I graduated from Edinburgh University with an honors degree and have taught mostly in Scotland since 2001. It is a privilege to now work for Oryx International.
I have a strong work ethic and like to be busy and challenge myself in my work. I love teaching sport especially swimming and gymnastics. My past experience to date has taken me to various teaching positions, such as a secondary teacher of PE, a Principal Teacher of PE, and a Deputy Head Teacher.
My family mean the world to me, I have a fabulous husband and we have two incredible children. The memories we will now make in Qatar will be treasured forever. We are all very active and like to keep healthy as well as keep our minds strong.
I believe that if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. I try to remind myself of that in my daily routine. I enjoy playing and watching most sports and keeping fit and healthy is very important to me. I like to up-cycle garden and house projects, I also enjoy reading and love animals. However, my favourite thing is spending time with friends and family in either adventurous trips or simply just spending quality time together.
I am very passionate about my job and hope to be able to bring inspiration and enjoyment to others. I want to be able to engage and support children through a relationship of high expectations and mutual trust. Together we are on a journey of discovery, success, and inquisitiveness.
‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.’

Lee De Waal
I was born and raised in a beautiful city called Durban, which is situated on the east coast of South Africa, where the Indian ocean, mountainous regions and wildlife are at your doorstep.
I studied at Kwa Zulu Natal University where I acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science and a PGCE in Physical Education.
With over 10 years' tennis coaching experience and working with children of varied abilities, I have more recently spent an exciting 6 years teaching Physical Education in both Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Whilst teaching in Saudi Arabia, I unexpectedly met my beautiful wife Jessica who is a Deputy Headteacher. Together we enjoy learning about new cultures and meeting new people.
My interests and hobbies include travelling and exploring new countries and sampling their authentic street foods. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing and relaxing by the ocean. In addition, I am an avid tennis player and also enjoy football, cricket and table tennis.
I believe that physical activity and education provides a cornerstone in every child’s life. Together with the Qatar 2030 vision and the physical education team at Oryx, my aim will be to cultivate an environment and opportunities for students to be more physically active inside and outside of the school. Together, we can make a difference.
I was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, India and am very proud of my birthplace, as it is also the birthplace of the great Mahatma Gandhi. I moved to the UK when I was just 4 years old and have lived there most of my life.
I completed Primary and Secondary school in Southampton before moving to London to study for a BSc in Sports Science. After completing my degree, I attended the University of Southampton to complete a PGCE in Education, allowing me to qualify as a PE Teacher.
One of my best jobs before I qualified as a teacher was as a camp counsellor for the College Settlement Camp in Horsham, Pennsylvania, USA. There, I spent 4 months teaching and looking after underprivileged youth from inner-city Philadelphia. I still hold this as one of the most valuable and rewarding experiences to date.
Immediately after qualifying as a teacher, I got my first job as a PE teacher at The Hurst Community College in Hampshire. I was promoted to Deputy Head of PE after 3 years and then promoted to Head of PE after a further 5 years, spending a total of 15 great years at that school.
I have been married to my wife Murshida for almost 10 years and we have been blessed with a son and a daughter (Samir and Seraya). They are all very excited, like me, to be moving to Doha and joining the Oryx International School family.
Obviously and stereotypically, my main interests revolve around sport. Cricket is my passion and my main sport, but I also love to play football, badminton, tennis and table tennis. I also love to ski in the winter and I have been very lucky to have skied in France, Andorra, Austria and the USA. I keenly follow the India and England cricket teams, but when it comes to football, there is only one club that is in my heart: Manchester United Football Club.
I love to travel and learn about new cultures and foods, so I am intrigued to see what Qatar has in store. When I have time and am on holiday, I love to read autobiographies because I love to learn about different people’s experiences throughout their lives. On the weekends, I love family days out, walks in the park and visits to the cinema.
My aim at Oryx International School is to help develop our pupils into global citizens using my experience and passion for sport. I want to help promote Oryx as one of the best schools in Doha by ensuring the best possible results for the first GCSE PE cohort to go through and to build on the success of the current sports teams. I hope to provide new enriching experiences for our pupils and lead the first Oryx ski trip as well as helping to organise sports tours abroad. Overall, I would love to inspire our pupils to develop a love for sport and exercise so they can be confident, ambitious and committed to a successful future.

In our diverse society, students need, more than ever before, to understand other people and cultures. Students must seek explanations about how the world works and help us think about alternative futures. My aim is to create global citizens equipped to assess received opinion and make independent judgements, who are aware of the past, present and future of the world around them. I will provide students with an education, which is up to date, relevant to their lives and foster a sense of wonder at the beauty of the world around them. I will encourage my students to succeed and never be made to think they cannot conquer challenging tasks.

Education is indeed the most important weapon you can use to change the world and it is with this inspiration I aim to achieve success at Oryx International School.
I was born in the Lake District and grew up in a coastal town on the Furness peninsula called Barrow in north-west England.
I studied Geography at the University of Salford and graduated in 2015. Since then I have been involved in a number of local agricultural projects, teaching growing and cooking techniques as well as promoting sustainable living and the reduction of food miles. These experiences led me to teaching and I completed my PGCE in Secondary Geography in 2018 at Manchester Metropolitan University.
I have worked in education and teaching for a number of years in a variety of roles. I originally started as a teaching assistant and gradually moved into secondary teaching. After completing my PGCE, I gained a job at my placement school, Parrs Wood High School & Sixth Form which is my current school. My interests are the outdoors, sports, music, cooking and travel. My passion for geography flows into my interests and while I attended university I acquired an allotment, grew my own vegetable produce, created and cooked dishes out of them and sold these at markets across the UK. Being active is something I not only enjoy but feel is an important part of my life and I try to be outdoors as much as possible, hiking, climbing and playing sports, particularly golf and football. I’m particularly looking forward to exploring Doha and the whole of Qatar.

I was born in Derry City in the north of Ireland. As all of my family also live in Derry, I rarely ventured further afield throughout my childhood. Post-secondary school, I remained in Derry and studied a Foundation Degree in Art & Design. After quickly realising my stick men drawings were inadequate, I moved to Belfast and enrolled in St. Mary's University College to study Secondary Education with Mathematics and Science.
Throughout my four year undergraduate study at St. Mary's, I gained experience working in several secondary schools across Derry City, as a Maths, Science and Religious Education teacher. During my final year of university, I secured a job working as a Mathematics teacher in Qatar. After I completed my degree, I moved to Qatar and have been working at an international school in Doha for the past three years. I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead in my new role with Oryx International School.
Ever since I was 16 years old, I have been playing Gaelic Football for my home club, Steelstown Brian Og's. Since my arrival in Qatar, I joined Qatar GAA and have played in many tournaments across the Middle East representing Qatar. Sadly, I was cut down in my prime after suffering a career-ending ankle injury in the final of the 2017 Qatar GAA Autumn League. I then sought a new sport and I began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Having taken some Jiu Jutsu classes in University, it was easy to adapt to the sport and help some fellow Irishmen (such as my colleague Liam Mernagh), who were beginners to the sport, with the basics.
Hopefully, whilst working at Oryx International School I will develop my ability to effectively execute the implementation of a multi-sensory environment, catering for the visual, audio and kinaesthetic needs of learners. With the fantastic resources available at Oryx, I will strive to ensure that in my classroom, learners will learn to adapt and apply their abilities, to interpret and overcome difficulties within and outside of the curriculum.

Mathematics is not a subject to be taught but one to be discovered.
It has been my continued aim to inspire lifelong learners and embed skills that will enhance learning in a meaningful way. My teaching philosophy is underpinned on the development of every child, promoting confidence, and building self-esteem. I firmly believe that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, thrive and develop. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with students of all ages, gender, ethnicity and ability. It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to become an enthusiastic, compassionate and reflexive teacher. Creating a positive, purposeful learning environment is essential to ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to make the best progress they can in every lesson.
I have a strong passion for Design and Technology and believe it is the most fundamental subject within the curriculum. It provides pupils with many important learning and life skills. This subject allows pupils to think more critically, to encourage debates, to question theories and concepts and to develop problem-solving skills. Design and Technology enables pupils to question things they see all around them and to become connected with issues that are happening in the world and problems that they will have to deal with later in life. My PGCE has allowed me to develop my teaching skills in many ways, and it has taught me the importance of inclusion and differentiation.
My aim is to create an enjoyable, caring and warm environment which will allow quality learning and support for students to grow, both as individuals and future innovators. I welcome the opportunity to embrace the Oryx International School vision and have the opportunity to work with the staff and pupils to encourage and guide all learners to become successful leaders and role models in their communities. I am an energetic teacher of Visual Art and Design Technology who believes that every child has the right to an education that prepares them for the world in which they are born. Art & Design play a vital role in today’s society, serving to stimulate, motivate and introduce students to creative industries, unlocking potential and honing skills in these areas. This can involve learning through games, as well as introducing students to authentic sources of French language and culture.
