I was born and raised in the North East of England and grew up in the coastal town of South Shields. I undertook an engineering apprenticeship studying at South Tyneside Marine Technical College and working at Elsy & Gibbons, a small local engineering firm. After completing my apprenticeship and worked in the offshore sector constructing floating pipeline laying vessels and oil production platforms. I completed my BSc Degree at Sunderland University and progressed into teaching.
I started my teaching career in Sunderland at Thornhill School for two years before moving to become Lead Teacher of Engineering in a school in South Shields where I stayed for 14 years. I then moved to Qatar to help set up the Military School, I worked with Qatari boys destined for the military, as the head of Engineering and IT.
My main interests are road cycling where I have completed numerous sportives in the UK and completed rides such as the Coast to Coast, which takes you from the West to the East coast of Northern England. I also like rambling in the countryside and undertaking treks up high peaks and have often vacationed in the Chamonix region of France enjoying Alpine walks.
I am married with two teenage boys, the family currently live in the UK.
I hope to add to the Design and Technology department and my main focus is to consolidate and improve the teaching of BTEC Engineering at Oryx school.
