Dear Parents

We have had a very busy and productive first two weeks back at school and the final term is well under way.

As you know, we award 'Star of the Week' Certificates to students in each class for great work, attitude or behaviour. Today we awarded certificates to students who have had 100% attendance for Term 2. This is an amazing achievement, so well done to everyone who received one.

Ramadan

The Holy month of Ramadan is fast approaching and I would like to inform you of the procedure at Oryx. As guests in our host country of Qatar, we respect the religious beliefs and traditions. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Every day during this month, Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours fasting. The annual fast of Ramadan is considered one of the five “pillars” of Islam. Muslims who have reached puberty and are physically able are required to fast each day, for the entire month, from sunrise to sunset. The evenings are spent enjoying family and community meals, engaging in prayer and spiritual reflection, and reading from the Qu’ran.

During the month of Ramadan the school day will follow an adjusted timetable for the duration of this period. If there are any changes to the start and end of the school day we will inform you.

  • The school day will begin at 8am and finish at 1pm.
  • Doors will be open from 7.45am.
  • There will not be any After School Activities or After School Care for children.
  • Please pick-up your children promptly at the end of the day.
  • During snack times, students who are fasting may proceed directly to the Arabic & Islamic Studies classroom where Miss Nehad will supervise.
  • For Students, eating will be limited to the Canteen and no where else.
  • For staff, eating will take place in the Faculty Room.
  • Students should take water bottles as usual to school and may drink water in the classroom.

Please inform your child's class teacher if your child will be fasting or not

I realise that some of you may be traveling to your home countries before the end of term, June 28. If that is the case, can you please notify your child's class teacher as to when your last day will be.

Nutrition Lecture

The Ministry of Public Health recently carried out a New Growth Monitoring Survey of all students in Doha from 5 to 19 years of age. The data is available for your child and we are happy to share it with you. The Ministry of Public Health are coming into school to deliver a lecture on nutrition. Please see the letter that was sent home with your children for further details and return the slip either to reception or to your class teacher. Have a lovely weekend. Kind regards,

Mr. Jarlath Madine
