Dear Parents,

Our vision is to ensure that students leave Oryx International School enabled, confident and ready to face the challenges that their next stage of life will bring. They will have developed effective behaviours that will enable them to thrive and succeed as global citizens of the 21st century.

Everything we do in school is in place so that over the course of 11 or 13 years we will translate this vision into reality. Success does not happen overnight but in stages. Every school year is important with each lesson, activity and event carefully planned to ensure every student will thrive and succeed as a global citizen.

Our curriculum is planned not only to ensure academic success but to ensure our students develop positive behaviours for learning and good attitudes for life. Our curriculum includes the academic rigor of the English National Curriculum and every term, you will have received a progress report and met with your child’s teacher to discuss academic progress; you will have seen your child performing on stage at least twice, singing, dancing, speaking, building confidence and taking risks and attended classrooms during ‘Landings’ to witness the range of learning that has taken place.

In class children have been given the opportunity to work as part of a team; to work independently; to find out things for themselves; to ask questions and to inquire about things that fascinate them.

On the playground our children learn about friendship; caring; tolerance and many other positive attitudes for life.

We also speak about it takes a village to raise a child and the school, parents and students all need to play their part and take their responsibilities seriously. Without all three of us doing this, the planned curriculum will have less of an impact.

I can safely say, that after three years at Oryx, I feel this attitude and responsibility is firmly ingrained and now part of the Oryx culture, so well done everyone, our children are in great hands and can look forward to a bright future.

Now that we are at the end of the year, we can reflect on all that has happened and know that these classes, activities and events that take place throughout the year are all going to culminate in your child becoming a hardworking, caring, happy, successful young person thriving as a global citizen of the 21st Century.

Enjoy the summer holidays and your travels but more importantly make the most of your time together as a family building memories and strengthening bonds.

Sadly, I have come to the end of my time at Oryx and I cannot put into words how much this place and all of you mean to me. Oryx will always have a very big place in my heart and for sure I will always be keen to know how your wonderful children grow and develop. Hopefully, one day, we will have the chance to meet up again somewhere on our beautiful planet, so please keep in touch.

Kind regards,

Jarlath Madine
