Dear Parents,
Two years ago this week, eight months after moving to our new campus, we held the official opening ceremony for our new Oryx International School. It is hard to believe that so much has happened in such a short period of time: not only has our school changed significantly, but the whole world has changed irrevocably. No one could have predicted the challenges we have faced over the past 14 months and yet through it all, our school continues to grow and flourish and we remain at the heart of the Qatar Airways community.
In under three years, the school has increased from just over 300 students to over 1,300 students and from 70 staff to 175 staff. We have welcomed families from as far apart as Iceland and New Zealand, and from China to Columbia, who are now all part of the same school. In particular, I would like to congratulate and thank H.E. Mr. Al Baker, Mrs. Nabeela Fakhri and the Qatar Airways School Board, Mr. Kevin McNeany, Mr. David Pottinger, Mr. Michael Clack, and the Operating Committee from Orbital Education for their vision, guidance and continuous support for the school.
As we look forward, staff and students are eager to re-establish as many of our previous routines as possible, to continue our journey towards being not only a 5-star school but the best school in Qatar, and to continue to demonstrate to each other and the wider community, what a wonderful, caring and inclusive school we have become.
Regards and best wishes,
Mr. Derek Laidlaw
