Last month, the World Health Organisation (WHO) launched the ‘Decade of Action for Road Safety’ - 2021-2030, with the ambitious target of preventing at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030.

Globally, over 3500 people die every day on the roads, which amounts to nearly 1.3 million preventable deaths and an estimated 50 million injuries each year.
At Oryx International School, we support this, as well as Qatar’s Road Safety Strategy to reduce the number of accidents that happen on the roads. We believe there are four key areas we need our community to work together on.

1. Reducing the speed at which we travel especially in built-up areas, like our school;
2. Everyone in the car wearing seatbelts at all times;
3. Staying off mobiles whilst driving; and
4. Safely crossing the road.

We had some amazing entries to our House Competitions where children created dances, raps and posters to create awareness of some road safety tips. Well done to all the winners.

Winning posters were from Fathima in Year 3 and Jamie in Year 6.
