The National Qatar Battle of the Bands competition was held at Doha College in Term 2. The event was open to international schools from all over Qatar, many of whom had held their own competition to see which of their rock groups would represent them.
There were 12 bands in total in the final. Oryx International School entered with Vox Sequitur, our leading rock group made up of Gaia, Sebastian, Sara, Marianna, Pietra, Hajar, and Samantha in Year 11, and Adhem in Year 8. We prepared an exciting version of the famous Michael Jackson song, Thriller.
The day of the competition went very smoothly, and it was wonderful to visit and share music together once again. the hosts, Doha College, ensured that all bands had the opportunity to rehearse during the day before their final performances in the evening.
Vox Sequitur performed close to the end of the running order after hearing many impressive bands. This did not phase the cool-headed and professional band from Oryx. They went on stage and played as well as I had heard any student band play. All members of the band performed amazingly well. When it came to the results, I never had any doubts, with Vox Sequitur placing first. Congratulations to the band on a well-earned win.
The prize for winning is a performance at the upcoming Rockaway Beach festival. The date and venue are to be confirmed, please keep an eye out for the announcement in the media, and come along to support the band.
