We held our official Charter Signing Ceremony with Executive Principal, Mr Laidlaw, under the diligent presence of our appointed TASS Student Ambassadors and Academic Team.

Oryx International School are proud to announce that in March 2024 we became members of “The Alliance for Sustainable Schools” (TASS). The Alliance for Sustainable Schools is a growing network of schools around the world working together for a sustainable future through a shared commitment to the principles of the Sustainable Schools Charter.

The initiative has spearheaded by Mr Laidlaw and Mrs Dobinson who worked together with our Head of Secondary School, Mr Sidat, Mrs Curry our Primary acting Assistant Principal along with our Secondary school teachers Mrs Adam and Mrs Innocent to diligently appoint our school TASS Student Ambassadors, who we are delighted to announce as Fawzia A R M from 10W and Sweta R from class 10W.

Fawzia and Sweta will work together with our academic team, to represent the school in TASS's advocacy work and sustainability related events, demonstrating Oryx’s continued commitment to the environment and supporting Qatar’s National Vision for a more a sustainable future by 2030.

On Wednesday 23rd October we held our official Charter Signing Ceremony with Executive Principal, Mr Laidlaw, under the diligent presence of our appointed TASS Student Ambassadors and Academic Team. The Charter is an acknowledgement of the seriousness of our ecological crises and a promise for the school to consider sustainability principles in our day-to-day operations and decision-making. If you would like to see a copy of The Charter, you will be able to find it proudly displayed after the half term break in our school Reception area.

Mrs Curry commented “We are delighted to give our student body at Oryx the opportunity to join TASS. This growing global network unites schools committed to a sustainable future, and as an eco-school, we are excited to collaborate with like-minded institutions and students worldwide. This wonderful opportunity will give our students the chance to not only share their knowledge and ideas but to collaboratively learn from other schools worldwide and continue to drive our sustainable efforts here at Oryx in empowering our students to make a lasting, positive impact on the planet and our school.”

Mr Laidlaw commented “It makes me immensely proud to see initiatives like these being led by our student Ambassadors and not just our academic team. The responsible attitude of our students is a great testament to the school. I am very much looking forward to seeing further sustainable events and actions being implemented in the school this year, cultivating a culture for us all to be continually aware of the need to look after our surroundings for the future generations to come.”

We are truly honoured to join the global community of schools working together for a more sustainable future and would encourage you to read more about TASS on their website: Home - The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (tass-asia.org)
