Dear Parents,
Half term has been well earned by everyone, from the fantastic Volleyball squads to the Boys Football teams and everyone who dressed in Pink to support Cancer Awareness last week.
It has been a pleasure watching the camaraderie and esprit de corps of the Volleyball and Football Teams as their seasons got underway this month. Win or lose, and they experienced both, the team spirit and positive attitude shone through. I have no doubt that volleyball is going to feature after half-term as well. Not least because of Mr Howell’s Friday morning coaching sessions, supported by so many keen parents and students. And then, there is the House Volleyball competition – which brings me nicely to House events. House Captains have been elected and points are already being accrued. The first House Competition will be the House Quiz on 4 November. Anyone visiting school should try to see the magnificent House displays at the entry to the Senior School. They are a measure of the enthusiasm and spirit generated from the recent House Assembly.
Pink Day was a triumph for our hard-working PTSA. The whole school got behind it and showed what a caring community we are. Well done to everyone involved.
Year 11 students recently went on a trip to the Ministry of Education Careers Fair and Year 7 are visiting Mathaf: Museum of Modern Art immediately prior to half-term. School trips have been something students and parents have been asking for and these, along with the recent Year 10 trip to Qatar Stock Exchange are an immediate response to that demand. We are looking at other trip options and will advise about those in due course.
We are also looking at three potential overseas trips in Term 3 for students in Years 7 – 10. Details will be published once costs and itineraries are finalised.
Qatar Airways staff were in school this week presenting their Cadet Pilot Programme on the 22nd of October. Interest is very high and we expect over 180 Secondary students to attend the presentation.
Year 9 and Year 11 students are preparing to engage with their I/GCSE and A level options. Parents and students of Year 11 are invited to attend the Sixth Form Information Evening on Wednesday, 27th November. Year 9 parents and students will have their I/GCSE Information Evening on Monday, 2nd December. Examinations will take place between Sunday, 17th and Thursday, 28th November and reports will be issued on Tuesday, 3rd December. These dates may seem a long way away but significant planning is already underway and we look forward to meeting with you at these respective events.
Now that the weather has begun to cool the children are able to access the pitch at break and lunchtimes. We appreciate your support in reminding them that no food or drink (other than water) is allowed on or near the pitch.
We are excited to offer Food Technology to QNV students in Year 7 as part of their DT work after half-term and will consider provision for other students as this pilot progresses.
Thank you for your continued support and wishing you a restful half-term holiday .
Kind regards,
Mr. Ken Haggarty
