PTSA

We have now held our first PTSA committee meeting led admirably by our newly appointed Chairperson Harjeet Kaur. It was lovely to have our first meeting as a group and the opportunity to get to know each other face to face. Our Head Girl and Boy, Olivia and Clark, also joined us to represent the student voice and to reinforce our remit that everything we do as a PTSA is for the benefit of our students. We had a very positive meeting with lots of ideas presented as to what the year ahead may hold and began making plans for our very first Winter Fair which will be held on Saturday, 15 December 2018 from 10 am - 2 pm in the school grounds. At this point we would like to invite all parents and staff to get involved in our first main event in whatever way you can. Whether you would like to have your own stall, manage an activity of your choice, donate items for prizes, help with decorations or be a helper on the day to manage all the activities, your help would be greatly appreciated.

PTSA stall: We will have a large PTSA stall which will sell all items of home baking or home-made craft items donated from parents. Proceeds from this stall will go into the PTSA fund to help cover costs for the day and to begin a PTSA account for future events.

Personal craft / goods / food stalls: If you would like to have your own stall where you can sell your own arts and crafts, home cooking or baking etc you can pay QR100 to reserve a table space in our street market. All vendors need to provide their own table to fit within a 2m x 1m area. You will then keep any proceeds you make on the day. Please reserve your space by Thursday, 17 November. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis and will include external vendors. Payment will be made by bank transfer into our school account in advance once your space has been confirmed.

Activity stalls: If you have a hobby that you would like to share with our students you could have a stall set up showing whatever the activity is that you do and offer our children the chance to try it for themselves. There will be no charge for a space of this type as nothing will be sold but you will still need to reserve the space by Thursday, 17 November.

Donations: We will have a Silent Auction where large prizes will be bid for and the highest bid wins the prize. We will need exciting prizes to attract bids for this stall. If you would like to sponsor this event by providing an item, an overnight stay, a weekend away, dinner for two, flights, luggage, vouchers for a spa or treatment, personal items etc please contact me directly.

To reserve your stall or if you have any suggestions of activities you would like to see happening at the Fair please email me on Karen.laidlaw@oryxschool.qa Many thanks for your help in advance to make our Winter Fair a fun, family day out for our whole community.

Parent Class Reps

I am pleased to confirm that we now have only one class without a parent representative in place. I am delighted that we now have a Class Rep for every class in the school. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for these important positions in support of your class teachers. Following our first meeting, Class Reps are currently in the process of creating individual WhatsApp groups for their class to ensure all parents are kept fully informed of all updates specifically within their own child’s classes. This also serves as an important reminder platform of upcoming events or social gatherings giving parents the opportunity to meet parents of their children’s friends. Please support your rep in any way you can to benefit your children’s education.
