´It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge´ - Albert Einstein

https://www.facebook.com/event...Who would believe that our secondary section has only been fully open for less than a term! All our staff and students have been working very hard over the last few months in creating a cohesive, productive and engaging curriculum which, I am sure, you witness via our social media updates and children's homework.

Building DNA marshmallow chains, jelly seismic structures, discovering the complexity of coding and being responsible for their own Businesses, is just a sample of what they have achieved this term! Our staff endeavour on a daily basis to produce engaging and challenging lessons which relate to our British Curriculum content and IGCSE specifications.

Our end of term cycle of assessments which has now started, will measure your child’s progress and help staff in setting targets for next term to help you in supporting us in your child's way forward to success. Each form tutor will invite you to attend a review meeting between the 10th and the 13th of December in which you will have the opportunity to discuss these further.

We are very proud of our student body and their proactive role in helping to set up Oryx International School. Please read all their news in their Student Council Newsletter in which Clark and Olivia (our Head Boy and Girl) tell you about everything they have been up to! This December, they are asking you to support them in putting together a “Thank you” box. Read all about it here.

Our PE fixtures have been developing in the last few weeks, as such our Netball and Football teams have been training and competing relentlessly with great success. Keep your eyes peeled next term as there will be a few changes during the term of After School Activities and scheduled sports.

We held a very successful Year 7, 8 & 9 Data Reporting and Tracking Workshop on the 2nd of December with approximately 50 parents in attendance. Presented by Mr Laidlaw and Mrs Johal, the presentation can be found on the parent portal for those who missed out. We will be holding a similar workshop next week on the 9th of December for our Year 10 parents, please go to our Facebook page here to book a seat.

Finally, we will be finishing our QNV (Qatar National Vision) and E-stem Projects. Year 7 have been exploring the effect of plastic on our oceans and will be putting an exhibition of their work in the main reception area, whilst Year 8 and 9 will be publishing their first ever student newsletter and podcast about their first term at Oryx. December will close in what has been an amazingly busy term for all but let’s remember what Albert Einstein said about Education…It was joyous!

Regards,

Nadege Johal
