Oryx International School Provides World-Class Education and Sporting facilities

Qatar Airways Oryx International School board members, construction company management and staff met recently to acknowledge the achievement of on-time construction and safety performance milestones on the construction of its brand new school campus. The new campus in Barwa City, Doha, due to open in September 2018, represents the fulfilment of a commitment made by the airline when the school was first opened in late 2016, at its existing campus

Workers on the construction of the new facility and their families gathered with school Board members and construction project company executives to acknowledge the achievements by all involved in the ambitious project that commenced in June this year. The General Contractors ‘Boom and Parsons’, the project consultants, took the opportunity to congratulate the workers on their progress and excellent work standards, with the General Manager of ‘Boom Construction’ handing out awards to notable staff members.

Qatar Airways Senior Vice President Human Resources and Oryx International School Board member, Ms. Nabeela Fakhri, praised the construction team and voiced the airline’s pride in this innovative project, saying: “Oryx International School is a school of the highest international quality, built so that airline employees are secure in having a school which will be without peer in Doha, with regard to its facilities for education and sports. Providing the best possible facilities and care for our staff is a priority for Qatar Airways. Their children too are a vital part of the Qatar Airways family. Through the provision of a world-class education, we aim to ensure our staff and their families continue to develop and grow with us here in Qatar.”

Commenting on the outstanding safety performance of the project, Qatar Airways SVP Capital Projects, Mr. Ahmad Al Abdulla said, “This is a special day for the workers on the project as we recognise their sincere efforts in completing one million working hours without accidents. We are especially proud as we are ahead of our construction schedule and we look forward to completing the project without incident. At Qatar Airways, safety is our highest priority.”

The school is operated in accordance with the English National Curriculum by British education company Orbital Education. Orbital’s chairman, Mr. Kevin McNeany, said: “It is Orbital Education’s privilege to partner with Qatar Airways in this ground-breaking undertaking. In concept and design the plan was the most innovative and beautiful that I have ever seen. It was Orbital’s pledge that the quality and breadth of education, in Oryx International School, will match the magnificence of the construction.”

The new school will incorporate state of the art science laboratories, modern art and music studios, a fully equipped medical clinic, swimming pools, sporting fields and courts, an 8-lane running track and a 640 seat auditorium, among a host of other amazing facilities.

Oryx International School’s existing campus at Old Airport, has just entered its second year of successful operation. Staff and children will relocate to the new campus at Barwa City in Mesaimeer when construction is completed in late 2018.
