Dear Parents

We enjoyed a wonderful International Day celebration this week, a fitting end to term 2.

The whole day encapsulated the spirit of Oryx International School with students, teachers, support staff and parents all working collaboratively to provide a wonderfully enriching learning experience for our students. It also provided another opportunity for the school community to strengthen ties and work toward our common goal of becoming a 5-star school. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the day and in particular Mrs Laidlaw and the PTSA, Class reps and parent volunteers who helped to make the day so colourful and vibrant.

This term we have enjoyed many enrichment days such as Beach Days, Sports Days, Book Day, ‘Landings’, trips to local areas of interest and workshops with visiting speakers. These are all possible due to the commitment of our teachers, supported by our admin and support staff, as well as the enthusiasm and involvement of our parents. We have come a long way in two terms, considering our challenging start to the academic year. What pleases me most is the way in which our students have settled into their new campus and are eager to learn and to be involved in the many opportunities on offer.

After the spring holiday, I will be sharing a summary of the Parent Survey which many of you completed this term. I am very pleased with the responses and it is clear that the levels of overall satisfaction are high. We will be addressing the areas which have been commented on for improvement and will be engaging with parents to help us move forward in these areas.

I will also share with parents, information regarding our new teachers we have appointed to join us in August, as well as announcing our internal promotions and posts of responsibilities for the next academic year.

I am still waiting for the MoE&HE to approve our calendar for the next academic year and will inform you as soon as I have their reply.

The official opening ceremony for the school is scheduled for the 28th April (subject to confirmation from the office of the GCEO Qatar Airways). Due to the limited seating available in the auditorium, attendance will be by invitation only, however, we are planning to make a live link available to all parents and students.

I wish you all a very relaxing, or action-packed, Spring break and look forward to welcoming you back on Sunday April 14th.

Regards,

Derek Laidlaw
